Child Custody and Visitation Issues

Zolla Law understands the sensitive and delicate issues associated with child custody and visitation. Because each child and each set of parents have individual needs and circumstances, we work closely with mental health professionals, custody consultants, and co-parenting mediators to determine what parenting plan is in the best interests of the child. We often recommend that the parties participate in individual therapy and co-parenting mediation to help the parents cope with the divorce, help the child to cope with what is often a difficult transition, and help the parents learn how to better communicate with one another. We work with, recommend, and refer clients to experienced therapists and mediators as part of our interdisciplinary approach to help our clients further the best interests of the children. In the appropriate circumstances, therapy is sometimes needed for children as well.

Our firm has years of experience in handling both the legal and emotional nuances and aspects of child custody matters, especially in the following contexts:

  • Child Custody and Visitation Agreements and Parenting Plans
  • Religious differences in custody disputes, where Zolla Law has written leading articles and spoken on a national level on this topic
  • Contested Paternity actions involving high income earners
  • Child relocation and move-away issues
  • Hague Convention/child abduction cases
  • Contested Guardianship and Adoption proceedings
  • Interaction between the Dependency Court and the Family Law Court, another area where Zolla Law has years of experience and has written and presented on these issues
